Advertisements contain the only truths to be relied on in a newspaper.—Thomas Jefferson

I wonder what old Thomas would have thought of internet pop-ups?  wink I’m thinking about news and newspapers because I’m playing with a different way of reading the blogs I like to keep up with.

While syndication feeds are old news to most bloggers, many folks out in the overworked business world aren’t aware that many blog tools do more than just create web pages.  Many of them also publish an XML feed of that same content, which other tools can then monitor for new content that gets posted.  For a look at my feed, scroll down and click the orange XML button in the footer of this page.

The tool I’m playing with at the moment is NewsGator, which pulls these feeds into Microsoft Outlook.  So far I’m pretty enamored with it - since on a daily basis I’m already reading a bunch of personal email and email newsletters I’m subscribed to.  Bringing blog content into Outlook means all my incoming news is in one source.  Cool!

asterisk*: The One Skill Every Web Professional Needs

asterisk*
I’m here to tell you (here we go!) that in my mind the one thing every Web professional needs, regardless of their main job function, be that IA, Design, Development, what-have-you is adaptability. You know, the ability to wing it.

Interesting post, and I definitely agree!  Inability to quickly change, re-think and re-learn in this field will drive you batty.  It’s one of those aspects that I both love and hate at the same time.

“If you look like your passport photo, you’re too ill to travel.” Will Kommen

About two months ago, we finally bit the bullet and bought a digital camera - a Canon Elph, the PowerShot S200 model.  Being a true A/V geek, I’ve gotten carried away in the past buying cameras and camcorders - paying top dollar for the one with all the bells and whistles that I never end up using.  This Canon seems pretty middle-of-the-road at 2 MegaPixels, but since it’ll get used mostly for pictures that are bound for the web I think that will be fine.  We’ve really liked the small size of the camera, and the ability to plug it straight into a RCA-jack equipped VCR or TV for an instant slideshow.

Anyway, since I now have an overabundance of digital pictures (according to the counter in the camera we’ve taken over 1500 in 7 weeks) I needed an outlet to share them, so just put a photoblog live on this site.  I followed the outline kindly provided here, although it looks like the owner of this site is on the move.

Feel free to visit the photoblog, click a thumbnail for a larger image, and leave comments on my general inability with a camera!  wink

Boyink.com Relaunch Part Deux

OK - I’ve re-relaunched this site on a slightly different CSS approach, kindly provided by Elwin of http://www.cocoaholic.com/, a fellow pMachine user who answered my plea for help on the pMachine forums.  Great folks there I tellya (and it’s well known - around here anyway - that Dutch people just plain rock..).  Elwins layout fixes the size and position of the right navigation column, which seems to help IE6 render the pages consistently.

I’ve also added the beginnings of a portfolio section where you can read a couple articles and view a Boyink Interactive client list.
