Well, the word is out. The jig is up. The cat is out of the bag. I can talk about what I’ve been keeping under my hat. I....uh...well I’m out of cliche’s.
Here’s the deal - after a couple of weeks of emails and phone calls and decision making I’m excited to announce that I’ve finally succumbed to my apparent destiny and have accepted a part-time job with EllisLab, the folks behind ExpressionEngine and CodeIgniter.
You can read the official announcement on the ExpressionEngine blog.
In which we get all....related-like. Using categories to display services related to products and vice-versa.
So in Chapter 14, we implemented the Services section of our model site, and assigned those services to the same categories as our existing Products.
In this chapter, we’ll display Services related to Products on the Products category pages, and Products related to Services on the Services category pages. Confused yet?
We’ll need two new embedded templates (one each for related products and related services), and we’ll need to edit the two existing category templates for those sections.
In which we implement the Services section.
In this chapter of the Building an ExpressionEngine site series I’ll work you through implementing the Services section of our example site. Between using EE objects that are already created (field groups, category groups, etc) and copying/tweaking existing templates I can get you through it in one chapter.
Well, it’s been 5.5 years since I started Boyink Interactive, and in that time I have attended not one major industry conference. Zero, zilch, nadda. All the events that used to seem like a no-brainer to attend when someone else was footing the bill suddenly looked major expensive when I have to write the check myself. Like, I could buy a good used car for that…
But this year it just feels right, I need both a break from the day-to-day work of running a business and an injection of energy and creativity. Add in being able to meet up with people that I’ve only ever interactive with online and this year it made enough sense - so I’ve booked a pass for SXSW in Austin, Texas this coming March.
I’ll especially be looking forward to finally meeting up with the EllisLab and GodBit folks.
It’ll be a bit of different trip for me than most as I’ll be driving down (20 hours on the road, yeowch) and “camping” vs. staying in a hotel—if you can call a cabin with a kitchen, bathroom, and cable camping. I’ll have others with me and there will be more to the trip - I can’t be too specific here as this and Christmas are all wrapped up in one big mess of surprises and expectations. Those of you with kids will understand…
At any rate as a first-time attendee, if anyone has tips for what’s worth attending and what’s over-hyped conference-crap I’d appreciate it.
Using a a plethora of plugins to make content management easier.
In this chapter of the Building an ExpressionEngine Site series, we will develop the right-column listing of “Latest Products”. This is a spot where using a couple plugins will help negate the need for additional content fields for site admins to enter and maintain.
