Let’s face it—the stock 9” drums and pitifully small single well master cylinder Jeep put on these old CJ’s were fine for the agricultural use they were marketing the Jeeps for at the time. But they’re unsafe for any sort of average road use in today’s world.
A handy combination clip-on chuck and pressure gauge is just the trick for airing up and down.
Wanting a rear mounted gas tank necessitated some exhaust work, since the stock muffler on an early CJ mounts in the spot where the gas tank needs to go. Dual rear exit exhaust was the solution.
My ‘66 CJ5 had the Buick “Dauntless V6”. The sound of the odd-fire Dauntless V6 is very distinctive. To capture it I clipped a mic onto my hitch, put the laptop in the backseat, hit record and took a short drive.
Note - this is with stock manifolds, small turbo mufflers, and rear-exit exhaust.
