A short history of Boyink family Jeeping.
1976
Shortly after my dad finished his first rebuild.
1981
On our second trip to the Ouray, CO area. My brother and I are riding Honda Trail 90’s since we all could not fit in the Jeep.
1986
I buy the CJ from my dad. First mod is cool new aluminum wheels and big lights.
1991
Just Married! The Jeep tags along on our honeymoon. (Motorhome was borrowed)
1992
I added all the diamond plate and sunk the taillights.
1994
I built a small matching trailer.
1997
On a trip to CO and UT, I roll the Jeep 1 1/4 times.
2000
Wanting the CJ to look more original, I put on white steel wheels, painted diamond plate, tailgate chains, “4 Wheel Drive” sticker, V6 badges, surface mounted taillights, small outside mirror, repro front bumper, and vintage ‘66 Michigan plates.
2001
I finally finish a matching ‘50’s era Bantam Jeep trailer.
2001
Jeep and trailer are featured in the Readers’ Rigs section of the February 2002 edition of Four Wheeler Magazine.
Text reads:
“Old School:
Mike Boyink bought his ‘66 Jeep CJ-5 from his father in 1986. Power comes from a Buick 225 V6 which mates to a T90 transmission and a Spicer 18 transfer case. A Rancho lift kit and Rancho RS5000 shocks were used to provide more articulation and clear the way for 32x11.50 BF Goodrich Mud Terrains on Stockton wheels. The interior features a full rollcage, bucket seats, and five-point harnesses to protect Mike and his passenger.”
2004
In order to accomodate a growing family, the ‘66 CJ5 is torn down with all the good parts beginning to get swapped over to a ‘58 CJ6. This project is called “Supersize Dutch”.
Later 2004
The Supersize Dutch project takes a drastic change of course, with the purchase of a 1964 CJ6 that’s already had a drivetrain swap. The 1958 CJ6 has been sold.

Well documented history. I can’t believe I didn’t know about the roll! Didn’t even break the glass, and today you’d never know the Jeep was ever damaged by looking at it. Nice job.
Oh, how’d you manage to break the driveshaft on the way to the parade?

Well, I was either not yet 16, or just turned 16, driving with a buddy, and wanted to impress him. The rest I’ll leave to your imagination because sometimes my dad still reads this site...
