Start with a sunny, 75 degree September day in West Michigan. Yes, it’s fall. Hope College students back in town. Cooler temps. That different smell in the air. If you look close....some leaves starting to turn already.
Mix in a morning at church, for us it’s Manna which meets downtown Holland at the historic (but greatly in need of renovation) Park Theatre. Yes, this is a church where you can bring your dog. And we did.
Add a dash back home for some lunch, my specialty of scrambled eggs with ham.
Now fold in a good long Sunday nap (somewhat fueled by allergies that are in high gear).
Let it rest for about an hour and a half, then let it rise.
Now pack up a bag with dinner, drinks, and sweatshirts. Fire up the laptop, and go to Geocaching.com. Yes, gas is pricey but this is fun within 5 miles from home. Load coordinates into GPS unit and family into Jeep.
Hit the trail to find caches:
Get some family pictures so the little moments aren’t forgotten:
Listen to kids laugh as dog (new to us and the Jeeping experience) finds her position in the backseat:
Find a waterfront parking spot and dinner location:
Cook dinner on back of Jeep, and eat to the sounds of waves against the shore, a nearby volleyball game, and kids on a play structure:
There you have it - the recipe for a perfect Sunday. Serves 4 people and one canine. Eat leftovers immediately, the snow is coming.
