New “Old Skool” Fender Flares

Here’s a pic of SSDutch with the new “old skool” A.E. Miller fender flares temporarily installed.  I liked these because they don’t have the fender “marker light” cutout, and they’re the same flare that was on Dutch when I bought him from my dad.

Turns out these flares really do have an ECJ history:

A.E.Miller Manufacturing Company was started in Denver, CO in 1970 when Arlyn Miller made the first set of Fender Extenders for his Jeep from fiberglass.  The Extenders were then sold to Jeep dealers in the Denver area.  The company moved to Boise City, OK in 1971.  The Fender Extenders were then produced for thermoformed plastic.  Soon after, the products were marketed nationally.  Throughout the years, many new products have been added to the product line. For a comparison between old and new,

Three comparison pictures; Old “modern” flares that came on SSDutch, then no flare, then the new flares again:

You can see the old style doesn’t hang down into the fender area nearly so much.  Overall these flares have much less of a visual impact on the Jeep.

Here’s the old and new laying side by side:
