Filling the Gas Fill

Another small step forward - today I made a sheet metal patch and welded it in the fill the former gas tank opening.  More fun is what I have planned for this spot…

Here’s the inside view.  I had to make this opening more shallow in order to get my rollcage out, but I still have plans for it.

I wanted to have *something* in this spot - not just a blank hole.  After kicking around a bunch of ideas I settled on using as a spot to mount the output of a onboard water system.

I bought a RV style “city water” hookup that will mount in this spot - basically the female end of a garden hose connection.  I ordered a 3-gallon poly water tank that will sit under the driver’s seat where the original gas tank sat.  It will fit under the rollcage, but I think it will have to be placed there before the rollcage goes back in.  Once that’s set I’ll purchase a RV-style 12V water pump to connect the tank to the output.

Once that’s done I’ll rig up at least three things to connect to the output; a simple spigot for washing hands, a shower head, and a simple hose extension.  Between those three attachments I think we’ll be able to fill water bottles, wash hands, spray down dirty kids or dirty Jeeps, or fill up a radiator after a trail repair or overheating.

Stay tuned....
