Here’s a 1975 CJ6 for sale on Ebay. It features a 304 V8 and 3 speed transmission. Funny how the Intermediate-era 6’s seem to be coming out of the woodwork lately.

Deputy Coogan in the famous movie “ Coogans Bluff “ would be proud to drive this “ 6 “ . Actually , Clint Eastwood was driving an earlier “ 6 “ , the movie was filmed in 1967/8 , so it was a Kaiser Era “ 6 “ , probably a 1964 , 5 , it has no battery box lid on the cowl , and no Bostrum Seats . Also , no V-6 emblem .

Yeah, I bought this one…Drove all the way to Youngstown Ohio and back in two days from Florida to get it…A bit rusty, but 304 was factory, and it has potential…
Why doesn’t a body tub from a 1955-1971 CJ6 fit a 1975???

Not sure why you’re phrasing the question that way Mike - did someone tell you they wouldn’t?
AFAIK, and backed by this ECJ5 tech page tubs from ‘55-71 and from 72-75 should swap with no issues. All the changes were in the front clip.

thanks…everywhere i looked, the cj6 tubs were 1955 - 1971, so i sure didn’t want to spend that much money if it would not fit. Is there anything I need to know when I get one, and is that the best thing to do? I’m scared that what I have now is a bit rough to fix. Floor is gone as are the braces. The sides are not as bad, but full of bondo…Again thanks for the reply, and I’m very excited to finally have gotten a CJ-6…

Hey Mike -
It depends on your fab skills. Rusted out floors are pretty common in old Jeeps - and lots of guys fix them with sheet metal and square tubing. The rear floors in mine have been fixed - the PO just laid in some new sheet metal over the old and welded it in. Not pretty but it works.
Repro tubs aren’t a “quick fix” either as the quality is usually pretty poor - you’ll have to relocate different mounts and brackets to get it to work. Willys sells the “Replitubs” where they do all that work for you but at a premium cost.
I’d recommend signing up at EarlyCJ5.com if you haven’t already. There’s a section just for your intermediate-era Jeep as well as lots of other CJ6 owners.

Why is there a bar sticking into the rear window?

1971 CJ6 AND EARLIER BODIES ARE 101” AND THE GAS TANK AND FILLER IS ON THE DRIVER’S SIDE. THOSE BUILT AFTER 1971 HAVE THE GAS TANK AND FILLER AT THE REAR RIGHT. TO USE THE 1971 BODY, YOU WOULD HAVE TO EXTEND IT. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE WITH MY 1975 CJ6 SO0 I’LL HAVE TO DEAL WITH WHAT I HAVE.

Randy—the tubs from ‘71 and earlier and ‘71 and up are the same length. AMC added length to the front sheetmetal to accommodate the longer I6 motor.
You are right in the fuel location differences - and as I recall there are some body mount differences as well, but the tubs can be interchanged with relatively straightforward work. There are a number of guys on the ECJ5.com board who have done the parallel swap with early and intermediate tubs.
