No, this ex-Border Patrol rig isn’t for sale. But the story is worth the price of admission - at least up here in the rust belt.
Here’s what the owner posted in the EarlyCJ5.com forums:
I have had the JEEP since March 2004
This 1970 CJ6 is my first 4X4. I bought it from a salvage yard, it had been seting for about 6 years, got it home, change all fluids, did complete brakes, new gas tank, battery, and it fired on the first crank. It took me about 4 months to do this. In Jan 2005 I removed the hard top and removed all of the old paint, Painted white to keep it cool hear in New Mexico. Yes that is the radio mast sticking out of the cowl, after the first trip around the block it had to go.
To those of us living in the Rust Belt - this is a fairy tale of the best sort, the kind you’d expect to hear around a campfire after a couple of beers. Nice to hear that it actually does happen...somewhere. To someone.
Here’s a couple “before paint” pics
