1965 Hardtop CJ6 on Ebay

This 1964 (?) CJ6 Hardtop has appeared on eBay this past week.  It looks like a nicer hardtop than most - with longer windows rather than just a big piece of sheet metal added in.

This is a Kelly Brand hardtop , I have the exact same one on my 1967 CJ-6 V-6 .

I just bought this jeep. Does anyone have any tips on figuring out the exact year? Also, what is the panel between the windshield and the glass? My 74 cj5 doesn’t have this. Thanks, Charlie

The panel you’re asking about is a nonfunctional, meant to be welded down battery box cover—a holdover from the military days of Jeeps.

My ‘64 doesn’t have it.

If you can get the VIN from the Jeep, you should be able to find exact month and year of production at http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/SerialNos/SerialNosSixties.html (It’s the CJ3B site, go to site map, then specs, then serial numbers, then Kaiser-era).
