Why Flash for Static Images?
SixApart, the company behind the leading blog platform MoveableType has just launched a redesign of their corporate website.
The first thing I noticed, because I run a Flash-blocker for Firefox is that all of the paragraph headers are actually Flash files containing static text.
I always seem to be a bit behind the curve on some design approaches, so help me out here - what’s the advantage of this? I’m assuming a better looking text presentation is one reason - but typically designers will create simple .JPG or .GIF images of text to achieve that. What does Flash bring to the table?

Looks like one of the Flash Replacement techniques for headings… here’s a good place to start: http://www.mikeindustries.com/blog/archive/2004/08/sifr
I think the main point is to allow the use of a wider range of fonts… the headings are being produced dynamically.
