pMachine Discontinued

“It is with some sadness that I announce the official retirement of pMachine Pro”. Rick Ellis, CEO pMachine, Inc. Full Post >>

This announcement from Rick Ellis of pMachine showed up yesterday in my email.  My reaction is mixed, at this point.  While I think pMachine is a great product - especially as a content management system for small business websites - I can understand his logic.

I used pMachine’s new product ExpressionEngine to power the Manna site and while I didn’t spend much time tweaking it, I could tell it was a much more powerful and flexible piece of software.  I just haven’t taken the time to fully learn and understand it—yet.

So, while the “final” version of pMachine offers some nice features, I’m faced with the “upgrade or migrate” decision for Boyink.com - not two weeks after completing an extensive redesign.  Rick is offering an attractive upgrade price to move to ExpressionEngine - I’ll probably at least buy the EE license now regardless of when a move happens.

At this point, the client sites I’ve built on pMachine Pro will stay on pMachine Pro, as long as support is offered there is no compelling reason to migrate them.

Such is life on the web - you can never rest on your laurels for long!
