Based on this glowing review from Keith Robinson I thought I’d give Flickr a try as well.  Here’s my photo album.

I found the site easy to register on, and uploading photos was a no-brainer.  But not any more of a no-brainer, IMHO, than WebShots or the other web-based photo hosts that I’ve used over the years.

Flickr has added some nice features like posting from email and RSS feeds for your images, but these are only incremental improvements.  I wish they would let me choose whether to view the images via Flash or not, since my FireFox Flash-blocker makes slideshows somewhat of a pain.

I will admit, I’m involved in enough online communities that I’m not that motivated to take advantage of that part of Flickr, which seems really valuable to some folks.

I also find that, as I get older, I’m less inclined to contribute content like my pictures to another site.  If I’m going to spend time doing that kind of thing on the internet, I’d rather build out my own site and be more in control of the presentation and usage of my content.

So overall, Flickr looks like a very nice service for hosting your photos and - if you’re so inclined - finding community online.  It’s just not enough added value for me.
