This was the main topic addressed by “Blogs, Boards, and Posts: Capturing Consumer Buzz Online” panel. The session featured five speakers: Two bloggers who talked about why monitoring consumer feedback sources such as blogs and message boards is becoming an important task for marketers, and three vendors who talked about how to use their tools to better integrate consumer opinions into marketing and advertising plans. Blogs are definitely starting to come up more and more in the work I do around West Michigan - and not by me..wink

Yesterday I was in a meeting with some local city leaders where we were talking about ideas for their site and the mayor brought up blogs.  Not in a good way, this time, but she had the essential idea of “post and comment” right.

My perception is that most companies (locally, anyway) struggle see bottom-line business value from having their corporate website, and this struggle is reflected in the reactive last minute (or never) nature of performing site updates.  Very few seem savvy enough to both understand that people are using the internet to talk about their products, and that as a company they could actually use that data to help their business.

But I’m working to change that...one meeting at a time…
