Via Mike Atkinson, here’s a News.com article that details an area I’ve been interested in for some time - blogs in the school environment.

While the article mainly talks about the use of blogs by students, it mentions the area I’ve talked about in the past - blogs for teachers.

I think it would be neat to see a school system use a blogging platform to create their own blog “network”, with ping servers existing at the departmental, building, and district level for showing the “most recent updates” in different ways (latest science blog posts, latest 12th grade class posts, etc).

Using RSS, parents could subscribe to the blogs from just their kid’s specific teachers and keep up to date on homework assignments.

The main hurdle - so far - has been getting the companies pitching the school systems on new web projects to understand blogs and see the benefits over a more traditional, page-based (and static) web presence.
