So you want a website for your business. Why should you use a blogging tool rather than a page-based content management tool? Link>>
I’m “coming out of the closet” a bit around the use of blogs for business websites.
While I’ve been using blogging tools to build client websites for a couple years now, I haven’t always used the “blog” word in describing them. Blog is a relatively new word, and since it was often met with the “RCA Dog” response (tilted head, quizzical look) I started just calling them “content management tools” instead.
But, as I noted in the previous post, “blog” is a mainstream word now with references in mainstream publications and comic strips.
For Boyink Interactive, I’ve decided it’s time to promote the benefits of using blogs and blogging tools for business, and to proactively market myself as the local “business blogging expert”.
I’ve written Blog-based Sites vs. Traditional Sites both to clarify the differences in my own head, and to use in explaining the blog-benefits to potential customers.
Caveat being, I haven’t evaluated every blogging tool on the market, nor every more traditional page-based content management system. The article comprises my observations after working with a couple of tools from each camp, and noting that blogs, in general, offered some distinct advantages. Specific blogging tools may not offer all the benefits listed, and specific page-based tools may offer some blogging functionality or features.
So witness another advantage of blogging - the opportunity for others (including CMS vendors) to come comment on your thoughts....
